They promised bad weather and we got it! Woke up this morning to a fine dusting of snow, it quickly cleared but on Burnhope Seat at the back of the house its really white. They call these late snow storms lambing storms up here. Fortunately they dont last long, more a nuiscance factor really. The good thing is the Rav came home today, the guy left Darlington at 8.30 am and got to us just before 10! He couldnt wait to get in the courtesy car and go home, he couldnt believe we had snow!! What a townie!!
My back is much better although its still a bit sore, I have decided to give choir a miss tonight, I dont think 3 hrs on hard chairs would help recovery.Paul was quite excited about his disciples weekend, he got me to pack for him!! so far I havent heard whether he has arrived but I am assuming no news is good news. I think it will do us both good to have a weekend break!
I braved the sleet and shopped at Bishop, tonight I will curl up with a hot water bottle, log fire and watch a Catherine Cookson dvd! Tomorrow Carol and Eddie are coming for lunch and a chat. What with bad weather, holidays and sickness we havent seen much of each other so it will be good to catch up.
The girls laid 9 eggs today but with low light levels, high winds and sleet I expect we will be on short commons tomorrow. As we are due even worse weather tomorrow I dont expect the hen hut will get cleaned out, maybe sunday!
Oscar is a bit better, I collected his special food and he seemed to enjoy it! how long that will last I dont know! Not long I guess because it cost £40 for the wet and dry stuff!!

I have 12 silly chickens who are supposed to live in a run alongside the main garden, but they didn't read the instructions and keep escaping! I am a very part time teacher, just a few afternoons teaching French to primary children to subsidise my fabric habit.

Spring
Well there is a definite feel of Spring in the air ! There are two tiny spots of snow remaining on the top of Burnhope Seat, so we could still have 'lambing' storms. Definitely March weather, cold, sleet laden wind and warm sun if you can hide behind a wall! We saw two lambs at the top of Ireshopeburn lonnen the other day, its really much too early for lambing up here so we hope the weather isnt too capricious.
Poor Oscar is suffering he has probably got some crystals in his bladder which makes him very uncomfortable, we had to get a urine sample yesterday. Fun getting a sample from a cat!! Well its gone off today and hopefully we will get the right stuff to sort him out!
With luck the RAV should be back tomorrow, I really dont like the Corsa and will be glad to see the back of it.
The hens are laying well, although they are making hay in the garden while my back is bad and I can't get out there. I can see they have had a lovely time scratching up all the moss in the lawn and wrecking the flower beds! Because of Paul's illness last year I didnt get any gardening done at all, John and Angus kept the lawn under control and that was about it. This year is going to be fun as it is very overgrown!
